Making best of Qiyam al-layl and Laylatul Qadr- Night of Decree
If one does not pray Qiyam al-layl on a daily basis, then the month of Ramadan would be a good start. This would also be a good practice to prepare him/her for the last 10 days of Laylatul-Qadr!
"And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr is? The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months (of worshipping Allah). Therein, descend the angels and the Ruh {(Jibril (alayhissalam) by Allah's permission)}. Peace! Until the rising of the dawn." (Qur'an 97)
"Its sign is that the sun rises on its following morning bright with no rays." Ubay Bin Ka'ab (raa)
Did you know the Excellence of Qiyam al-layl-Night Prayer?
Allah, the Most High ordered our beloved Prophet in the Qur'an: "and recite the Qur'an in the early dawn. Verily, the recitation of the Qur'an in the early dawn is ever witnessed (attended by angels). And in some parts of the night offer prayers with it (recitation) as an additional prayer (Qiyam al-layl) for you. It maybe that your Lord will raise you to the highest degree in Paradise!"
Allah testifies in the Qur'an, that the Qiyam al-layl is the best time for contemplating the verses of the Qur'an and that you will get more knowledge : "Verily, the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech is more certain. So remember the name of our Lord and devote yourself with a complete devotion " (Qur'an 73: 6)
So what time is the Qiyam al-layl?
Our Messenger (sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam) said: 'Our Lord glory be to Him descends to us every night to the nearest heaven while the last third of the night still remains and says:'Is there anyone to invoke Me so that I may respond to his invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone who seeks My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?'" [Bukhari]
This would be in the early hours before dawn (Fajr prayer). The best time would be to delay it to the last third portion of the night, according to Sunnah.
An Excellent True Story…
A person once narrated to Sheikh Ali Al Qarni (famous Muslim speaker) saying, when his brother died, he saw him in a dream and his brother was in Paradise talking to him on how he attained Paradise; and he said that he swore that out of the entire world and everything in it, the absolute most precious thing that saved him in the Hereafter was the fact that he used to get up for Qiyamul Layl. The person narrated this to the Sheikh so that other people who are looking for success in this world and in the Hereafter, that it is in their Qiyamul Layl…and I am telling you this so you could benefit and tell this to your families, friends and everyone else. If a person is praying Qiyamul Layl , there is no possible way that the person will miss out the other 5 obligatory prayers or Sunnah , because he/she is voluntarily getting up at a time when everyone else is sleeping.
