I’m Brenda Lee Verazon, born catholic in Pampanga, Philippines. Since I was small kid, I told myself that I will never change my religion/belief even if one day I will marry a non-catholic. Time had passed; I came here in Dubai to work. I met this guy who is a Muslim from Bangladesh. He introduced me to Islam. At first, I was not really interested but when he’s asking me about my religion and asking me for any proof that catholic is the perfect and true religion, I cannot show him anything. That was the time I got confused with my religion and read some articles about Islam. Then I’ve searched for Islamic Centers for Filipinos in the internet and Kalemah was there so I called the center and ask how I can attend the classes.

I remember it was Brother Umar who gave the dawah and the first question was “Who is my God?” It was a simple question yet I did not answer instantly, then I answered “God the father”. The next question is “What is the name of my God?” I answered “Lord God”. He told us “My God is Allah, He created me, you and all the things that we see and even the things that we don’t see. He told us many stories that made me realized that Islam is true. On exactly the same day, I embraced Islam, Alhamdulillah!

From catholic to Islam is very different. I have to cover my whole body, pray 5 times a day, no celebration on birthdays, and to forget the things that Catholics and Christians do. My family was upset when I told them about my reversion to Islam but little by little I told them how perfect is Islam and they accepted it and because no parents will ignore their children.

Kalemah Islamic Center is a big help in molding me to become a good Muslimah. I cannot say I’m very good because we are still humans and commit sins but I learned how to offer salah, then basic Arabic and now we are taught to read the Qur’an. These are only few things that Kalemah does to teach every new Muslim.
