Valley of Emaan: The ILM Series, by Sheikh Fahad Al-Tahiri
A Summary
The first day of the seminar 'Valley of Emaan: Valley of ilm' by Ustaad Fahad Al Tahiri was on Friday, 20th of January 2012. The event took place in Sultan bin Ali Al Owais auditorium. The venue was comfortable with separate seating for men and women arranged by Kalemah. There was also a mothers section provided and live audio for those not seated inside the hall.
The seminar began at 6:30pm and ended at 10:30pm with prayer breaks in between. It is the first time ever that an event hosted by Kalemah has resulted in more than 500 attendees.
On the first day, the Ustaad covered the topics namely,
·Four Principles from the Qur'an {Al Qawaai'd al Arba'a}
·The Three Principles {'Usoolu'l Thalathah}
It was an informative and spiritual session. The Ustaad explained each point in great detail and covered various aspects of the topics mentioned above.
It is crucial for a Muslim to understand what shirk consists of because if it enters the worship of a believer it will destroy their faith. The four principles from the Qur'an which a Muslim should know in order to stay away from shirk are mentioned in the Qu'ran, and these were explained further in depth by Ustadh Fahad Al-Tahiri.
First principle: Understanding who are the Kuffar, as although they used to worship Allah but they also associated partners with Him.
Second principle: Intercession is not allowed through the awliyaa of Allah; to learn to differentiate between 'prohibited intercession' and 'affirmed intercession.'
Third principle: The Prophet (PBUH) fought against those who worshipped others besides Allah such as the sun and the moon and he did not differentiate against them.
Fourth principle: The mushrikeen of our time are worse than the mushrikeen of the past as today's mushrikeen do shirk during times of ease and difficulty while the mushrikeen of the past would do shirk within times of ease only as they worshipped Allah alone in times of difficulty only.
With regards to the three principles, the Ustaadh mainly explained the three points below:
- Allah created us and provided us with sustenance. He sent us the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Whoever obeys him will enter paradise and whoever disobeys him will enter into hellfire.
- Allah is not pleased when there are partners associated with Him or He is worshipped alongside with others.
- Whoever obeys Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it is imperative that they do not take as allies the enemies of Allah and His messenger.
Though being a first of its kind workshop in English held in the UAE, the seminar was a great success Alhamdulillah, and KALEMAH re-opened its registrations thereby providing for more seating for those wishing to attend all the three sessions.

“The best of all worship is the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.”
DAY 1
Friday, 20th January, 2012
6 PM - 10 PM
Topic: "Four Principles from the Qur'an" & "Three Questions in the Grave (Part 1)"
Students will join Ustad Abu Abdillaah Fahad Al Tahiri on the first day of the Ilm Series: Valley of Eeman, to learn about the fundamentals from the Qur’an, explaining the Four Principles regarding the reality of Monotheism and polytheism, which in turn clearly distinguishes between the true Monotheistic Believer and the polytheist who claims to be so. Students will also get a glimpse of the beginning stages of the trials of the grave, when a person would be asked about the three Questions in the grave, and the resulting consequences.
With 25th December fast approaching, the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, along with KALEMAH, organized a well-prepared talk by brother Gabriel (Jibreel) Keresztes, on the 16th of December in their Auditorium, in order to address questions such as:
What are the origins of Christianity?
Was Jesus born without a father?
Is Jesus son of God?
Did Jesus speak as a baby?
Was he crucified?
Being a teacher by profession, brother Jibreel’s talk was laced with beneficial information about the prophet Jesus, his mother Mary, and facts about the festival of Christmas. The talk by brother Jibreel shed light upon the fact that a very essential aspect of Islam is to love Jesus, the son of Mary, as one of the beloved Prophets of God, as well as encouraging the non-muslims to read for themselves what the Holy Qur’an says about Mary and Jesus (May Peace be upon them ).
The hour and a half session offered a much needed clarification to the crowd of 150 men and women, including muslims, non – muslims, as well as new muslims present at the auditorium.
Fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ does expiate for the past year, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162
The Virtues of Allah’s sacred month of Muharram
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and Chief of the Messengers, and upon all his family and companions. Allah’s sacred month of Muharram is a blessed and important month. It is the first month of the Hijri calendar and is one of the four sacred months concerning which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so it was ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them, four are sacred. That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein…” [al-Tawbah 9:36]
We must, however, take stern warning from the saying of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم):
“Most of the hypocrites of my Ummah are its reciters.”
[Saheeh al-Jaami’ no. 1203]
They recite the Qur’an, not seeking to understand it so that they may gain Allah’s pleasure but for some worldly gain.
“Whoever recites the Qur’an, then let him ask Allah by it, for verily there shall come a people who shall recite the Qur’an, and ask the people by it.”
[Saheeh al-Jaami’ no.6467]
So it is critical then that we recite this Qur’an seeking by it Allah’s pleasure. And it is imperative that we understand and act by this Qur’an as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, “On the Day of Judgment, the Qur’aan and its people who used to act by it in the world shall be brought, being lead by Soorah al-Baqarah and Aal ‘Imraan, which shall be arguing on behalf of their companions.”
[Reported by Muslim]
Their companions are those who used to recite them and study their meanings and act upon them. However, for the one who has been deprived of the ability to understand the Qur’an, in all its subtleties and the depths of its knowledge, he may be deprived of this great honor and blessing. And the key that will open the door to understanding the Qur’an is the Arabic language, for Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) has revealed it as an Arabic Qur’an.
We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an, in order that ye may learn wisdom.
[Yoosuf (12):2]
Thus have We sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an and explained therein in detail some of the warnings, in order that they may fear Allah, or that it may cause them to have a lesson from it.
[Taa Haa (20):113]
An Arabic Qur’an, without any crookedness, so that they may have Taqwa.
[Az-Zumar (39):28]
A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail as an Arabic Qur’an, for people who know.
[Fussilat (41):3]
It is therefore a duty incumbent upon us as muslims to strive in learning this blessed language.
The messenger of Allah SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said:
"Whosoever memorises and preserves for my people forty hadith relating to their religion, Allah will resurrect him on the Day of Judgment in the company of jurists and religious scholars "
In another version it reads: "Allah will resurrect him as a jurist and religious scholar ".
In the version of Abu Al-Darda it reads: "On the Day of Judgment I shall be an intercessor and a witness for him".
