Valley of Emaan: The ILM Series, by Sheikh Fahad Al-Tahiri

A Summary of topics covered on Day 2

With the success of the first day of the ILM Series and with more than 500 attendees, Alhamdulillah, the registrations were once again re-opened to fulfill the requests of many more students who were unable to attend the first day. The seating arrangements were slightly altered and more number of chairs was added in the Al Owais Auditorium in order to accommodate a larger crowd.

The Lessons Learned

On the second Friday the speaker started with a recap of the previous lecture and discussed in detail the topic of Shirk and Intercession (Shafa'a)

Intercession

He touched on the types of intercession (shafa'a) by first explaining the terms like

  • Al mashfoo'lah (the one who asks the intercession)
  • Ash shafi (the one who intercedes on the behave of the above)
  • Al mashfoo'u indah (the one to whom the intercession is made)

Third Principle: To not differentiate between Shirk and Kufr of Kuffaar

The prophet Muhammad (SallAllahu alayhi wa sallam) encountered many groups of people who differed in their worship and ways of worship. Among them were those who worshipped the sun, moon, stars, prophets, angels, righteous men, stones, trees, etc.

The prophet of Allah did not differentiate them on the basis of what they worshipped or how they worshipped; he fought with them for their disbelief and their arrogance to refuse to worship only ALLAH. He fought to establish the Oneness of Allah, and to abolish any other practices of worshipping other than Allah.

Conclusion

Polytheists of the past – comparison between the past and present day polytheism

As a conclusion, and the most important discussion on the second day, Sheikh highlighted the differences between the mushrikeen of the past and today. He beautifully differentiated between the two by pointing out the differences in their actions and beliefs.

Valley of Emaan: The ILM Series, by Sheikh Fahad Al-Tahiri

A Summary

The first day of the seminar 'Valley of Emaan: Valley of ilm' by Ustaad Fahad Al Tahiri was on Friday, 20th of January 2012. The event took place in Sultan bin Ali Al Owais auditorium. The venue was comfortable with separate seating for men and women arranged by Kalemah. There was also a mothers section provided and live audio for those not seated inside the hall.

The seminar began at 6:30pm and ended at 10:30pm with prayer breaks in between. It is the first time ever that an event hosted by Kalemah has resulted in more than 500 attendees.

On the first day, the Ustaad covered the topics namely,

·Four Principles from the Qur'an {Al Qawaai'd al Arba'a}

·The Three Principles {'Usoolu'l Thalathah}

It was an informative and spiritual session. The Ustaad explained each point in great detail and covered various aspects of the topics mentioned above.

It is crucial for a Muslim to understand what shirk consists of because if it enters the worship of a believer it will destroy their faith. The four principles from the Qur'an which a Muslim should know in order to stay away from shirk are mentioned in the Qu'ran, and these were explained further in depth by Ustadh Fahad Al-Tahiri.

First principle: Understanding who are the Kuffar, as although they used to worship Allah but they also associated partners with Him.

Second principle: Intercession is not allowed through the awliyaa of Allah; to learn to differentiate between 'prohibited intercession' and 'affirmed intercession.'

Third principle: The Prophet (PBUH) fought against those who worshipped others besides Allah such as the sun and the moon and he did not differentiate against them.

Fourth principle: The mushrikeen of our time are worse than the mushrikeen of the past as today's mushrikeen do shirk during times of ease and difficulty while the mushrikeen of the past would do shirk within times of ease only as they worshipped Allah alone in times of difficulty only.

With regards to the three principles, the Ustaadh mainly explained the three points below:

- Allah created us and provided us with sustenance. He sent us the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Whoever obeys him will enter paradise and whoever disobeys him will enter into hellfire.

- Allah is not pleased when there are partners associated with Him or He is worshipped alongside with others.

- Whoever obeys Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it is imperative that they do not take as allies the enemies of Allah and His messenger.

Though being a first of its kind workshop in English held in the UAE, the seminar was a great success Alhamdulillah, and KALEMAH re-opened its registrations thereby providing for more seating for those wishing to attend all the three sessions.
